The Concept

The building of Prada fashion house is situated in the heart of Tokyo's Aoyama shopping quarter.

The house impresses with its spectacular outfit, and stands out from the neighbouring buildings due to its irregular shaped five-corner ground plan with differently pitched roof slopes.

The entire outer skin is composed of rhombus-shaped glass panes. The diagonal façade axes continue past all the corner points and points of intersection. The aluminum mullion/transom system structure is fastened to the steel bearing framework structure that also runs diagonally on the building side. The glass panes are fitted with even-plan sealing using the vario-system, taking account of possible movements due to earthquakes. At the corner points, the glass panes appear to be bent over due to the filigree corner formation. The façade incorporates specially designed electrically operated smoke extraction vents and fire escape windows.
