Frank O. Gehry’s monumental urban sculpture has become one of the symbols of post-Olympic Barcelona, standing at the foot of Hotel Arts at the Olympic Marina. With its 56 m long, 35 m high (183 ft / 114 ft) structure and a total surface of 40,000 sqm (430,600 sq ft), the Golden Fish is one of the largest volume sculptures in the world. It weighs 260 tons and is composed of a complex structural steel reticulum onto which the skin cladding - 30,000 m (98,425 ft) of interlaced electro-colored stainless steel strips - is fixed. The electro-coloring bestows a particular suggestiveness that is highlighted by golden reflections of the sun. For this monumental sculpture, design management was achieved using CATIA (Computer Aided Three-dimensional Interactive Application) and the sculpture was modeled entirely in 3D using this special software. The Golden Fish was designed, tested, manufactured, transported and erected in a record time of seven months.
