Tour Hekla is a 220m skyscraper in Puteaux, La Défense – the financial district of Paris, France. Named after the Icelandic volcano Hekla, it was designed by renowned French architect Jean Nouvel.

The second-tallest building in France, the tower provides 76,000 sqm of office space and services designed to the highest standards. Sustainability lies at the core of its design, which features an innovative system of independent mini-air handling units that treat the in-office air and decentralise ventilation, optimised lighting and water consumption, and 2,500 sqm of green space.

The project

The concept

Tour Hekla’s striking, slender appearance draws on a prismatic composition with alternating glass and matte. The aesthetic envelope incorporates a number of polychrome brise-soleils that, together with the high-performing glass on the building’s façade, regulate the heat.

What did we do?

We designed, engineered, manufactured and installed 43,900 sqm of single-skin façade and external louvres for the tower, plus stick-system façade fixed on a steel structure for the tower’s podium. In total, we supplied 6,658 curtain wall panels and 22,000m of brise-soleils.
