The first Curtain Wall panel of One Vanderbilt, the skyscraper that is going to become a new landmark in New York City, was installed earlier today. Now, “only” 8,917 units are left to go for the completion of the cladding of the 427m-high (1,401 ft) commercial office development, located close to the Grand Central Station, at the hearth of Midtown East.

The supertall building design follows the language of the great New York Art Deco skyscrapers. It is composed by four interlocking, tapering volumes and features angled sides that finish in steps towards its pinnacle, which is crowned by a spire. The base includes retail spaces and an atrium, where a staircase and escalators will connect it to the Grand Central Terminal.

Permasteelisa Group is in charge of the design, engineering and production of the air blast resistant, glazed aluminum curtain wall of the skyscraper designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, for an overall area of 68,270 sqm (735,000 sq ft).

The skyscraper, set for opening by mid-2021, will feature mostly office space, along with ground floor retail and an observation deck near the top.
